Pete Carroll is :(
In 2009, rational adults and catty teenagers have a new way to carry out their frustrations with one another.
Rather than confront each other directly they express anger through updating their Facebook status.
In 2009, some instinctive college head coaches set up Facebook accounts to keep themselves top of mind among Generation Y and specifically those they want to recruit to their programs without NCAA regulation.
Pete Carroll is believed to be among the first to take advantage of Facebook and updates his status fairly frequently. Whether he does this himself or through a member of USC's Sports Information Department can't be determined but if it was just a crazed fan, one of his 5000 friends would've alerted him and steps would be made to take down the phony account.
Derek Lynch is friends with Pete Carroll.
So when Pete Carroll disagrees with quarterback Mark Sanchez's decision to forego his final season and jump to the NFL he does what many people do to express his displeasure.
He updates his Facebook Status (Update: You don't get to see the status update if you're not friends with Pete Carroll but it says Pete Carrolldisagrees with Mark's decision today, but knows we'll be strong in 2009: http://www.petecarroll.com/index.cfm/pk/view/ cd/NAA/cdid/412687/pid/400025).
