Weekly Betting Tips

Penn State +3 at Minnesota- Minnesota hasn't earned the right to be favored against anyone other than Illinois, Northwestern, or Indiana.

LSU pick 'em at Florida- LSU has looked better in its one loss than Florida has in its five wins. I know I'm going against the Swamp and the Pizza Parlor Index but LSU will be this year's argument for a playoff come December.

Oklahoma +6 vs. Texas- I thought this was gonna be a pick 'em. Freshman quarterbacks don't win this game. Give me the perennial winner and points in a rivalry game everytime.

Oregon + 7.5 at California- It's easy to underestimate Oregon, they play in Oregon, they look stupid in those Phil Knight on acid uniforms. They have no name players, they play at 1am sometimes. They won a game they shouldn't have. My brother still plays for California, they're at home. But California has lost betters a lot of money this year, perhaps more than any other team.

Miami, FL -13.5 vs. North Carolina- Not sure how many "Fire Coker" banner planes will be rented this Saturday. How much does that cost anyway? It'd be a fun way to fuck with people.

Syracuse +9 vs. Pittsburgh- Call me a pollyanna, call me a homer. Just call me. KeriAnn and I are taking the trip up to lovely Central New York for Homecoming. If it's bloggable I will blog it. But anyway two betting factors are in play here 1) team who hasn't beaten any proven teams versus top-tier conference team with a Senior (actually I think Tyler Palko's been playing college football for ten years)Quarterback getting points in an expected "reality check" game and 2) Road favorite in-conference. Syracuse has played the perfect schedule for a program trying to remember how to win. It's not a cliche that Winning is an Attitude and Syracuse has that attitude right now, they're winning games they shouldn't win. Add that with a fanbase who might be coming along for the ride and I don't see Pitt running away with anything Saturday.

Tennessee pick'em at Georgia- Tennessee's offense is a machine, UGA's is not. The hedges shall burn.

Notre Dame -30 vs. Stanford- I usually stay away from these spreads, mainly because Brady Quinn could be out of pads by mid 3rd quarter and God knows what could happen. But Stanford is this bad.

Bonus: Northern Illinois -10.5 at Miami (OH) Miami OH should be very afraid of what Garrett Wolfe is going to do to them. VERY AFRAID.

Gator-Aided

The University of Florida receives 20% of profits from the drink Gatorade, which was invented by a professor for its football team. Up to $80 million as of 2005.

Wins by Georgia, LSU, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilit and UCF, helped Florida leapfrog over USC to take over the No. 1 spot in this week's Pizza Parlor Index even though both teams won their games Saturday. While the Gators opponents were feasting on teams not on Florida's schedule the Pac Ten started round-robin league play last week (everytime USC wins, those teams will go 4-5 each week). Whether or not Florida will be able to stay number one is another story. They begin a brutal October schedule this week at home against LSU...

Syracuse fittingly is up to 44th.
