The Sopranos Finale
(SPOILER ALERT: If you don't want any of last night's Series Finale of "The Sopranos" spoiled for you do NOT scroll past the picture of the final scene of seven seasons of one of the most loyally followed shows in television history)
So when David Chase said he had an idea how he wanted The Sopranos to end, he meant to say he knew how he wanted his post Sopranos career to begin...touring colleges not answering the question "What happened to Tony?". I'm sure the answer is "What do you think?"
Well my guess is...
Meadow had already made plans to go to Holsten's, not to meet her family but to go out with the guy in the jacket they kept showing during "Don't Stop Believing". She ran in after being so nervous it took six times to parallel park (great television by the way). In a moment of young lust, ran hastily into the restaurant to meet her date in the Men's room for some quick oral before dinner. Tony is shocked to look up and see his daughter so thrown to a creepy old man.
Who's to say I'm wrong?
Besides Phil Leotardo being run over while stopping for $2.49 a gallon gas (ah, the good old days) and AJ getting a smoking new girlfriend in high school, the series finale disappointed because of an artistic trick purposely written to make us want for more, that we're clearly not getting in case talks about a movie resume (and if so who is left to be in it).
I'm sure all this stuff with AJ is supposed to be some kind of political commentary but AJ was by far the worst character of the show and the fact the finale spent so much time on him was more disappointing than the "did your DVR crap out or not" ending.
In closing, I'm almost glad the show ended this way. It had turned it on like a basketball player in a contract year these past nine episodes and had me wondering why the show couldn't have always been this way. Like AJ seeing his SUV blowing up it is cleansing to see the show fail to meet expectations. May make me miss it less.
Won't make me watch "John from Cincinnati".
